AUTUMN IN MAINE

Well, George and I did it - we took our trip to Maine in October. It was very relaxing too. After all, there is not all that much to do there but relax and enjoy the scenery. We did hike up Acadia Mountain, The photo is George with a view from the top. Unfortunately, top does not necessarily relate to half way. The hike up was much steeper than I had remembered. When we got to this beautiful view, we stopped for lunch and thought we would have an easy hike down. NOT! If anything, the trip down was even steeper than the way up AND, as we later found out from a (more intelligent) hiker who was using a map, we had 2/3 of the hike yet to go. We toughed it out and finally made it back to the car safely, all limbs intact, if somewhat aching. The good news is that George and I both agreed we would do it again when we come back. (Yes, George likes Maine and plans to return!)

We had a nice visit with some friends I have known for years, Chris and Elaine Eaton, and I even had a short visit with my ex-husband whom I had not seen in 13 years. I highly recommend the healing of old wounds by reconnecting with one's past. We talked briefly about old hurts and how much we have grown since the divorce. Now we are both in a space where we can be friends again.

A week after George and I returned from Maine, I was sitting at my desk drinking a cup of coffee and eating a piece of toast. I had put extra butter on the toast – I really like the taste of toast with butter. This particular morning I allowed myself to thoroughly enjoy the sensation AND the taste of the butter on the toast. It was an opportunity for me to be totally present with what I was doing (eating toast!) and to appreciate my world.

I don’t know about you, but I normally go about my day as if I am on remote control. Gotta do this and gotta do that. Not often enough do I take the time to appreciate the sensuous subtleties of life.

Yeah toast!
