Sculpture
New Hope 2007 - Indoor & Out
by Robin Larsen
Now in the fifth year, both
the Indoor Art Exhibition and the Outdoor Sculpture
Show include a number of
pieces that explore the perimeters of sculpture and
offer an inspiring glimpse at the amazing diversity
in the art world today. While artists from around the
country applied, the exhibition still speaks very highly
of the importance of area artists in the broader American
art scene with more than one half of the exhibiting
artists from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York.
The annual Indoor Exhibition
opens April 28 from 7-9pm and continues Thursday through
Sunday from 12noon – 5:00pm through June 17,
2007.
The Outdoor Exhibition
creates a year round Open Air Museum featuring 11
monumental pieces placed throughout
New Hope. Works range from Harry Gordon’s 20-ton
abstract stone Granite Arch at the Rt. 202 “backdoor” entrance
to New Hope to the wonderful lifelike, steel River
Elk sculpted by Wendy Klemperer installed in Ingham
Creek at the rear of the Artworks Building on Mechanic
Street. New works include works by Peter Dellert, Carl
Billingsley, Charlie Brouwer, James Vilona, Christoph
Spath, Joe Mooney and Mark Pettegrow and sites include
the New Hope Solebury Library, the Wedgwood Inn, locations
in Union Square and others. All new works remain on
exhibit for a minimum of one year and some - like the
Arch - will remain longer.
All artists in the Outdoor
Exhibition receive a stipend from New Hope Arts for
the exhibition of their work. All outdoor
works are available for sale and self-guided walking
guides are available at exhibition sites, at the Center,
and at key locations through the community.
The Sculpture New Hope
indoor exhibition opens with a Patrons’ Preview
on Saturday, April 28, 2007 and is open Thursday
through Sunday from 12noon - 5PM
through June 17, 2007. The Center is open later on
Second Saturday in May and June and throughout the
show for ArtSpeak, a series of evening receptions where
exhibiting artists talk about their work and offer
insight into the creative process. The talks and a
series of Sunday Informal Concerts are open and free
to the public. For more information about special events
