Scott Edwards

Scott Edwards
is the Editor of the New Hope Gazette, but grew up
in Langhorne, PA where
he always enjoyed
writing. He was very much into sports in high school,
but tried to write as much as he could. After his high
school graduation, he went to Temple University in
Philadelphia, PA, and majored in journalism.
It was there that Scott encountered more of his love
of
writing.
He tried to surround himself with writers, doing whatever
it took to get involved.
Scott graduated college in 1998 and moved back home
with his parents who still lived in the house in Langhorne.
There, he tried to pursue his life-long dream of becoming
a writer. He sent many resumes to surrounding newspapers,
magazines, and anywhere else he could find. One day,
he stumbled onto the New Hope Gazette. Scott submitted
his resume and was taken on as a freelance writer.
When the editor retired, he
took over that position! Scott has been with the
paper for eight years now and loves every minute of
it.
When I first entered the Gazette for our interview,
I was surprised to see how small and personal the office
was. One might think the office to
be large and have about 20 people working in it. However,
it is a modest group of people who work
as hard as 20. Scott admits to working 12-13 hours
a day
to
get the job done and it’s evident that his coworkers
think highly of him and his efforts.
Scott admits that he loves being in the center of all
the action in New Hope. He has come to love
the area and is surprised daily by new and exciting
things.
One thing that has caught Scott’s attention is
riding his bike around town. He loves being outdoors
and taking in all the sights and sounds of the area.
Scott could easily take an afternoon and sit peacefully
on a bench in the middle of town and people watch.
The unique people and beautiful surroundings are what
keep him occupied.
When not working, Scott likes to pick up a book,
find a quiet spot and read. Since he began
bike riding, he also loves Lance Armstrong's inspriational
books.
Scott loves meeting new people and, with his job, has
met all walks of life- from the artist who sells his
paintings for thousands of dollars, to the artist who
lives in a basement and hasn’t sold one painting.
He loves hearing about different lifestyles and beliefs.
Not a visual artist himself, Scott enjoys and appreciates
the abundance of art, artists,and
galleries in New Hope.
As impractical
as it seems, Scott has always had the dream of traveling
the world and doing freelance work to pay his way.
Whatever form it takes, Scott plans to iinclude travel
in his future. The one constact in his life is writing.
His
love and dedication to the craft will keep him going
and accomplishing more and
more as the years pass.
His appreciation for life and people are what I believe
will take him far in life. He describes himself
as humble, driven, humorous and motivated. From one
writer to another, I would have to agree!
