APRIL 2007
PLANNED PARENTHOOD BENEFIT
Planned Parenthood
of Bucks County's (PPBAC) professional training, patient
education, and community education
programs seek to increase understanding of sexuality
as an integral aspect of human development and
to develop one's ability to communicate feelings and
decisions to others. The organization provides
quality,
affordable healthcare in five Bucks County locations:
Doylestown, Quakertown, Warminster, Bensalem, and
Bristol. Their medical offices are staffed by dedicated
and compassionate nurse practitioners, physicians,
and counselors trained in reproductive and sexual
health care. They specialize in full service care,
including counseling and education. On April 22 at 2:00 PM
at the Stephen Beck Theater at New Hope-Solebury
High School PPABC presents its
annual fundraising benefit SING OUT LOUD AND PROUD.
The program will feature Comedy Central comedienne
and finalist of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” Michele
Balan and the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus as
well as a performance by the Rainbow Room youth.
The Rainbow Room opened in 2002 in response to the
growing and ongoing needs for education, advocacy,
recreation and support of LGBTQA youth. Providing a
safe, supportive and empowering environment to LGBTQA
youth, the Rainbow Room fosters peer support, confidence
building, leadership skills and a sense of belonging.
The impact of the Rainbow Room is evident in the formation
of 15 Gay-Straight Alliances in surrounding schools
in collaboration with Rainbow Room participants.
Tickets to the concert are $50 for general admission,
$75 for general admission plus underwriting one ticket
for a youth, and $125 for preferred seating and underwriting
a ticket for one youth. Tickets are available by
calling PPABC at 215-957-7981, ext. 112. Proceeds
of the fundraising will benefit the Rainbow Room,
Bucks County’s only center serving lesbian,
gay, bisexual, transgender, questions and allied
(LGBTQA) youth as well as PPABC’s two after-school
life skills and sexuality education programs for
at-risk youth, Girlfriends Club and Boys 2 Men.
