FACES & PLACES
AROUND TOWN AUGUST 2006
On Sunday September
17, 2006 from 4 PM to 7 PM, the New Hope Historical
Society and the George Nakashima Studio
are co-hosting
"Party Under the Trees," a fundraiser to help defray
costs for repairing the Parry Mansion.
The George Nakashima
studio and compound located on Aquetong Road, just
South of Windy Bush Road will be the setting for the
historical society’s fundraiser. This spectacular
event promises to be the social highlight of the summer.
An Asian-style menu will be
prepared for the party by DiSH Catering. An open
bar and specialty drinks will be included.
An exciting live auction will
be conducted by David Rago and will feature valuable
items,
including a furniture piece by Nakashima, an oil painting
by George Bramhall, a catered dinner for six people
in the Parry Mansion dining room, a cocktail party
for twenty people on the porch and lawn of the Parry
Mansion, and a variety of other unique items. A silent
auction that will offer local services, products, and
artwork, is also planned for the event. The ravages
of time, storms, floods and hurricanes have
taken their
toll on some of the oldest and most beautiful buildings
in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. “Last year the
New Hope Historical Society replaced a large amount
of deteriorated wood on the exterior of the house and
rebuilt a Victorian porch at the eighteenth century
Parry Mansion,” said Les Isbrandt, president
of the Society. “That cost us about $70,000.
Now we are faced with the urgent requirement to replace
the entire roof the mansion and we must repair our
historic 1750 era barn that was severely damaged by
recent floods,” he added. “We need to raise
a substantial amount of funds to preserve these precious,
historical buildings,” said Isbrandt. Tickets for the Party Under the Trees are $100 per
person ($50 tax deductible) and can be obtained by
calling the New Hope Historical Society at 215-862-5652.
