 Leslie Orofino
Singer
Leslie Orofino has been performing regularly in New
Hope for the past five years. Her critically
acclaimed cabaret acts have delighted audiences nationwide
and, for OUR delight, she is coming back to New Hope
on August 26, 2007 at Bob Egan’s Cosmopolitan
Club.
Of
her sold out show at the legendary Algonquin's Oak
Room international star, Julie Wilson remarked "KNOCKOUT
SHOW....GO SEE IT!" A few of Leslie Orofino's
New York City nightclub appearances include The
Waldorf
Astoria, The Plaza Hotel, The Algonquin's Oak Room,
Opia, Danny's Skylight Room and The Hideaway Room
@ Helen's.
Leslie
Orofino was born Leslie McGuire on Long Island and
grew up in a musical family. Her father, whose
career
was in
advertising,
was an accomplished Irish tenor who loved to
sing and play the piano. He performed semi-professionally
while
Leslie was growing up. Instead of playing games
with his daughter, Robert McGuire would invite
young Leslie
to sit with him at the piano and sing together.
It
was a natural evolution for Leslie to follow her
father’s musical inclination. “I carry
it on for my Dad,” says Leslie. Her father
passed on several years ago and she misses
his presence at her performances.
Leslie
loves to laugh and brings lots of humor
and other emotions into her performances.
Her New Hope appearance is entitled "Manhattan
Madness" and Leslie will be singing songs
from such greats at Berlin,
Porter, and Gershwin. There may even be a
little Tango related fun! Leslie
released her debut CD, Moonlight Cocktails,
to excellant
reviews. Dave Nathan
of All Music Guide
gave it three stars and remarked, "This
album is solid cabaret and definitely recommended." John
Patrick Schutz of Applause! Applause! said, "Sultry,
Sexy and Smoky are the adjectives that come
to mind while listening to Leslie Orofino's
Moonlight Cocktails."
