14 – 16, 2006
New Hope Arts’ 5th Annual
Townwide Celebration of the Arts
by Robin Larsen
This July 14, 15 and
16, 2006 New Hope Arts Inc. continues the five year
tradition of Savor New Hope – Showcase
the Arts, a weekend celebration of the arts and artists
of the region. In the past 5 years this event has drawn
thousands of visitors and residents over the three
day weekend who embrace this town wide happening as
a way to recognize New Hope and surrounding areas as
a “Little Paris on the Delaware”.
“Each year we have tried to expand the event
to include more of the abundant creative energy that
continues to grow in the New Hope region, “ explains
New Hope Arts Executive Director Robin Larsen. “This
year we are adding “Wearable Art” and will
sponsor a variety of activities that focus of the “art
of adornment.”
Visitors to New Hope
for the weekend are encouraged to wear hats and there
will be opportunities for art
enthusiasts – young and old - to create their
own paper hats and dress hats that they bring with
them. Individual shops such as New Hope Leather will
not only demonstrate leather mask making but will also
offer a discount to any “hat wearing” purchaser
on Saturday, July 15. Also on Saturday, there will
be a variety of “Cap Competitions” where
hat wearers will compete for best “Hat of History”,
and the most “Creative Chapeau” and terrific “Toppers
from Literature”. As always, with any New Hope
Arts Inc event, creativity and imagination are encouraged
and the organization will be working with the New Hope
Solebury Library and New Hope Historical Society to
coordinate judging which will take place at the Library,
Parry Mansion and the New Hope Arts Center.
A variety of artists
creating “Art to Wear” will
display their works under tents at Union Square and
most will offer hats, handmade clothing and accessories
for sale. Artists interested in participating should
contact New Hope Arts at New Hope Arts Center, corner
of Stockton and Bridge Street – 2nd Floor- in
New Hope. The Center is open Thursday – Sunday
from 12noon – 5pm. For information and/or registration
forms contact 215-862-9606 or Newhopearts@aol.com.
