New
Hope Farmer’s
Market
By Earl and June Bierman
A Farmers’ Market,
sponsored by New Hope Parks and Recreation, opened
a couple of weeks ago in New
Hope at the parking lot of the American Legion at the
south end of New Hope. The entrance is on New Street
and there is plenty of free parking market shoppers.
The market is open every Thursday (rain or shine!)
from 3 to 7 pm , May through the Thursday before Thanksgiving.
Local and organically grown food is now the fastest
growing sector of our food economy and for good reason.
The average bite of food we eat travels 1500 miles
before it reaches our tables. Yet it takes a tenth
as much energy to grow foods locally. Most importantly,
we are healthier when we eat organically grown vegetables
and herbs. Eggs and poultry products taste better and
are better for you when they come from free range chickens.
For example, pastured chickens have 40% more vitamin
A than conventionally raised chickens. And the fresh
baked bread! Can it taste any better than being baked
that morning locally?
Local farmers and small
business owners offer fresh vegetables, herbs, herb
and flower plants for your
garden, plenty of garden advice, organic poultry & eggs,
organic beef and bison, fresh organic cows milk and
cows milk cheeses, handmade soaps, organic fair trade
coffee, flowers, and specialty breads and pastry. Market
Manager Susan Pierson hope to add more vendors as more
people learn about and come to the market. Thursday
before Thanksgiving
If you want to catch
up on local gossip, the Farmer’s
Market may be the best spot in town. You are sure to
run into someone you know and, at the same time, will
make new friends. Shoppers enjoy meeting their neighbors
and catching up on the local news. The Market is a
win-win situation. Please stop by!
