One might say it was just luck or good timing that
brought Angel LaBuda to the cards and gifts store
in New Hope, PA. Angel, on the other hand, says, “It
was meant to be.” One day a couple of years
ago, after shopping in the, what was then, Hallmark
Gold Crown Store, Angel returned home and told her
husband “I just shopped in a store that will
be mine one day”. Angel’s dream has always
been to own her own gift shop. The opportunity arose
early in 2005. Angel believes that she “made
the best decision in my life” when she bought
the store on June 21st, 2005. She recently celebrated
her one year anniversary.
Angel grew up in Lansdale, PA and attended North Penn
High School. After high school she worked for two different
attorney firms over a ten year period. Later she took
a job with Merck Pharmaceuticals in West Point, Pennsylvania
and retired from Merck in 2005.
When customers enter
Angel’s store, they are
immediately greeted by Angel and her warm smile and
bubbling personality. The best part of Angel’s
day is meeting and talking to the diverse people who
come into the store on a daily basis. She acquired
her new merchandise from gift shows in New York and
Philadelphia where she just started buying things she
loved. “We built the store with inventory of
everything I love,” says Angel. Angel’s
love of the products, attention to detail, and limitless
energy bring warmth to the store like rays of sunshine.
Her favorite gift items are the miniature tea pots
which are displayed in front of the counter. She loves
that she can look at them all day and admits to having
over 30 of them in her own home.
Angel spends most of
her time either at the store or at home (also in
New Hope) taking care of her family
and her father who recently moved in. She loves everything
about New Hope but praises the people the most. She
enjoys the restaurants and shops and how there’s
always something going on in the community.
When not at the store or at home with her family,
Angel enjoys looking through catalogs for upcoming
merchandise and taking yearly trips to Aruba with her
husband. She has also been a Mary Kay Cosmetics consultant
for over 10 years.
Angel describes herself as extremely compassionate
and sensitive. She loves meeting new people and this
is evident after speaking with her for only a very
short time. She admits that her life is very simple
between the store and her family life and states none
of this would be possible without the love and support
of her best friend, her husband Bob.
